Revolutionized Teaching
Details: On Wednesday, February 29th at CU-ICAR, The Upstate Network (an Urban League auxiliary) will take part in a free, public TEDxGreenville Salon event. The event will highlight TEDxLive, a live simulcast of the TED event from Long Beach, CA. We will also have a Local Speaker, Dr. Juan Gilbert, who will talk on the subject of Revolutionized Teaching.
Here's what's in store:
1. TEDxLive: Full Spectrum – This month’s salon date coincides with the annual TED conference, and we have a special treat for TEDxGreenvilleSalon attendees. We will be streaming one of the TED talks LIVE from TED2012 during our Salon. This is a privilege that we have through a special TEDxLive license. We will be streaming from Session 6: The Crowd. TEDxLive is an extension of the TEDx program, launched by TED in 2010. TEDxLive events are TEDx events built around the live webcast of TED Conferences. TEDxLive events enable TED enthusiasts all over the world to experience live sessions of the TED Conference; events can be simple viewing events, and may also host live speakers.
2. Dr. Juan Gilbert – You’ll have a chance to hear from Dr. Juan Gilbert, IDEaS Professor & Chair of the Human-Centered Computing Division in the School of Computing at Clemson University. Dr. Gilbert directs the Human Centered Computing Lab and will speak about infusing our public education system with various technologies that can revolutionize the classroom to help improve education for students. In the spirit of TED (www.TED.com) our "Idea Worth Spreading" is what if each student was matched with 5 teachers to 1 student? Dr. Gilbert has a technology that is making that scenario possible. Please join us to celebrate the great community we share and the ideas and people that make our home town extraordinary!

TEDxGreenvilleSalons are a series of monthly TEDxGreenville events that allow the growing TEDxGreenville "tribe" to continue sharing Ideas Worth Spreading after each annual TEDxGreenville main event.
We’d like the TEDxGreenvilleSalons to serve as an opportunity to get even more “melting” going on in this wonderfully diverse melting pot we call Greenville (or gumbo pot as some of us like to say). At each TEDxGreenvilleSalon you can expect to enjoy one or more TED (or TEDx) videos and a presentation or performance organized around a specific theme or topic- and there will always be ample time for discussion afterwards. It's all about spreading great ideas, sharing perspectives, and helping surface amazing stories and talent from right here in Greenville.
